Mandatory use of Disposable Products in Saloon
February 28, 2022Cotton towels have been used in hairdressing salons for decades, but as environmental concerns grow, something extraordinary is taking place inside the business. In recent years, the single-use towel has entered the market, changing the way hair salons think about their towels, service, and laundry habits. During our events and seminars here at Eco Hair and Beauty, we noticed that many universities across the United Kingdom have already made the switch from standard cotton towels to single-use towels, and we want to delve into why this has happened.
Environmental Advantages
Single-use towels, also known as eco towels, can be used in place of standard salon towels but have several environmental advantages because they do not require a washing machine or dryer. By eliminating the need for electrical appliances, salons can save money on their water and energy costs while also conserving valuable resources like water and fossil fuels. Once the towel has been used and has reached the end of its useful life, it may be disposed of, and unexpectedly, the towel will break down and biodegrade after twelve weeks under compost conditions. When compared to a washing machine and a dryer, which can leak dangerous compounds and deplete essential resources if disposed of wrongly, this life cycle is far shorter and less harmful to the environment.
Advantages of Hair Salons
Furthermore, because only one towel is used on one client, single-use towels are assured to be the most hygienic alternative on the market. They also save time because they are newly folded, as well as being aesthetically beautiful because they are not worn or bleached stained, which reassures clients of the salon’s excellent standards. Nowadays salons also use Disposable cutting sheet.
Single-use towels are also ten times more absorbent than ordinary towels, and a new study indicates that they can cut a stylist’s blow-drying time by up to 40%. This is beneficial to both stylists and the environment because reducing blow-drying time can lower the salon’s energy consumption and costs.
What are the drawbacks of non-disposable towels?
To limit the danger of bacteria and cross-contamination, salons must wash towels after each client and set the cycle to over sixty degrees. Towels that are not laundered at a high temperature after each wash might transmit infections like headlice, skin sores, ringworm, and hepatitis C. Bacteria can remain on non-disposable towels even after they have dried, and their woven fibers are more prone to germ transmission.
The frequency with which traditional, salon apron are washed consumes electricity due to the use of essential electrical appliances such as the washing machine and dryer. Heating water to a sufficient temperature to wash the salon towels consumes a significant amount of electricity.
Traditional non-disposable towels are also time-intensive because they must be washed, dried, and folded. Salon towels can become worn and discolored over time, which is unappealing to clients and does not generate a positive image for the salon.
